The baritone Dietrich Volle has been a member of the ensemble for many years: during the 2020/21 season he can be heard singing Mr. Gobineau again in Menotti's The Medium and in Lady Macbeth von Mzensk and roles in new productions of Zemlinsky's Der Traumgörge / Görge the Dreamer and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. He also sings the role of a bitter prisoner in Janáček's Aus einem Totenhaus / From the House of the Dead. The corona shutdown prevented him from taking on the role of an Officer in the planned new production of Henze's Der Prinz von Homburg. His most important roles to date in Frankfurt were Dr. Vigelius (Schreker's Der ferne Klang / The Distant Sound), Alkalde (La forza del destino), the Dottore (Trojahn's Enrico) and Doctor in Barber's Vanessa - all new productions - Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), the Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Dr. Kolenatý (Die Sache Makropulos / The Makropoulos Case), Music Teacher (Ariadne auf Naxos), Spencer Coyle (Britten's Owen Wingrave), Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier), Old Man (Reimann's Die Gespenstersonate / Ghost Sonata), Donner (Das Rheingold), Manz (Delius' Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe / A Village Romeo and Juliet), a Soldier (Salome) and Ctésippe (Fauré's Pénélope). Many of his performances have been caputured, live, on recordings by OehmsClassics. He also took part in the first ever performances in Frankfurt of Eötvös’ Angels in America (Roy Cohn) and the world premiere of Glanert's Caligula (Merea / Lepidus) – which was commissioned by Oper Frankfurt. He sang the title role in Berg's Wozzeck at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg in 2013, where he also took part in the world premiere of Michael Obst's Die andere Seite / The Other side.
