This season in Frankfurt you can hear Andreas Bauer Kanabas singing Sarastro, Veit Pogner and Adahm in new productions of Die Zauberflöte, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Rudi Stephan's Die ersten Menschen / The First People - which was performed for the first time in 1920, at Oper Frankfurt! - the Commendatore in Don Giovanni and in recital. Since joining the ensemble in 2013/14 this bass has thrilled audiences with Wagner roles including Daland, Heinrich der Vogler, Landgraf Hermann von Thüringen and King Marke in a new Tristan und Isolde, Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Philipp II (Don Carlo), Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Don Pedro (Meyerbeer's L’Africaine), Escamillo (Carmen), the Watersprite (Rusalka), Ibn-Hakia (Iolanta) and the title role in Bluebeard's Castle. Last season he sang Oroveso in Norma, Teiresias in Oedipus Rex, King René (role debut) in Iolanta the Marchese von Calatrava / Padre Guardiano in La forza del destino and King Alinoos in a wonderful new production of Dallapiccola's Ulisse.  This former member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Berlin appears regularly at theatres around the world including the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden, the Bolschoi in Moscow, La Scala Milan, the Opéra National, Opéra Comique and Opéra Bastille in Paris, the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Dresden's Semperoper, the Komische and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Lithuanian National Opera in Riga, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse and the Edinburgh International Festival. Other recent engagements have included Heinrich der Vogler in a new Lohengrin at the 2021 Tirol Festival in Erl and Rocco (role and house debut) in Fidelio at the Hamburg State Opera. Future plans include Don Ruy Gomez de Silva in Verdi's Ernani in Antwerp and Ghent, Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier) at Irish National Opera in Dublin and his debut at the Tokyo Spring Festival as Pagner in 2023. His first solo CD - Love and Despair (OehmsClassics) - was released in September 2021.
