Andreas Bauer Kanabas
During Oper Frankfurt's 2018/19 Andreas Bauer Kanabas' portrayals of Ibn-Hakia / Teiresias in a new Tchaikovsky/Stravinsky Iolanta / Oedipus Rex double bill, Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) and Wassermann / Water Sprite (Rusalka) will be followed by the Marchese di Calatrava / Padre Guardiano in the new production of La forza del destino and Escamillo (Carmen). Last season he added four new roles to his repertoire: the title role in Bartok's Herzog Blaubarts Burg/Bluebeard's Castle, Don Pedro in a new production of Meyerbeer's L’Africaine, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Fafner in Das Rheingold. Recent roles for the company have included Phillipp II (Don Carlo), Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra) and King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Heinrich der Vogler (Lohengrin), Daland (Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), the Commendatore (Don Giovanni), General (Der Spieler/The Gambler) and Escamillo (Carmen), In November 2017 he can be heard singing Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra-comique in Paris, a role he has sung at the Staatsoper and Komische Oper in Berlin, the Semperoper in Dresden, in Malmö, Budapest and Abu Dhabi. Other recent guest engagements have included Méphistophélès (Gounod's Faust) and Zaccaria (Nabucco) at the National Opera in Riga, Heinrich der Vogler at the New National Theatre in Tokyo and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. A former member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper in Berlin, he has also appeared at other leading theatres including La Scala Milan, the Opéra National de Paris, Seattle Opera, Oper Leipzig, Opéra Lyon, the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Teatro Municipial Santiago de Chile and at the Edinburgh International Festival and enjoys a busy concert career.
