The Romanian baritone Bogdan Baiu, who sings Posa in this revival of Don Carlo at Opera Frankfurt, where he appeared for the first time in 2016/17 as Marcello, left the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf / Duisburg’s Opera Studio in 2012/13 to join their ensemble. This season this award winning singer can be heard there in roles including Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Marcello in La Bohème and Gunther inGötterdämmerung. He can also be heard as Figaro (Der Barbier von Sevilla) at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy and Silvio (Pagliacci) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He has sung Escamillo (Carmen) at places including the National Opera in Bucharest and Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Eugene Onegin at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, Valentin (Faust) in Vilnius and the Herald (Lohengrin) and Spirit Messenger (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at the Staatsoper in Hamburg. His repertoire also includes Mozart‘s Don Giovanni, Rossini’s Dandini (La Cenerentola) and Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor. Bogdan Baciu graduated from the „Gheorghe Dima“ music academy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and has won prizes at many competitions including the „Sabin Dragoi“, „Ionel Perlea“ Slobozia, „Romanian Lieder interpretation Comptition“ in Brasov and „Ferdinand Weiss“.
