Barbara Zechmeister has been singing at Oper Frankfurt since 1996, and the title of Kämmersängerin was bestowed upon her in 2011. During the 2019/20 season she takes part in the new production of Shostakovitch's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and repeats her portrayals of Marianne Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier and Evelyne in Křenek's Heavyweight / Schwergewicht. Last season she sang Graumann's Wife in Schreker's Der ferne Klang / The Distant Sound and Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium - both new productions. Other recent roles in Frankfurt have included the Old Baroness (Vanessa), Larina (Eugene Onegin), Adelaide (Arabella), Gertrud (the mother, Hänsel und Gretel), Mrs. Coyle (Owen Wingrave), Alte (Weinberg's Die Passagierin) and The Young Woman (Reimann's Die Gespenstersonate / Ghost Sonata). Roles in earlier seasons included many lead Mozart roles and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Freia (Das Rheingold; CD & DVD - OehmsClassics), Marguerite (Gounod's Faust), Lady Macduff (Bloch's Macbeth), Donna Clara (Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg / The Dwarf), Grigori Frid's Anne Frank, Salud (de Falla's Das kurze Leben / La vida breve) and Livia in the world premiere of Glanert's Caligula (CD - OehmsClassics). Guest engagements have taken Barbara Zechmeister to cities including Mannheim, Hannover, Stuttgart, Essen, Rouen, Lisbon and the Wexford and Bregenz festivals.
