The Italian mezzo-soprano Elena Zilio has appeared at leading opera house all over Europe. Now she is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she sang Filipjewna in a new production of Eugene Onegin, a role she has also sung at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, to sing Madame de Croissy in a new production of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelités. She sang Madelon in Andrea Chénier in Munich, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and in Bilbao and returned to the Théatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London to sing Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria rusticana. Other roles at Covent Garden, where she is a regular guest, have included Zita (Gianni Schicchi), La suora zelatrice (Suor Angelica), Madelon, and was due to sing the old Burya in Claus Guth's new production of Janáček's Jenůfa, which has now been rescheduled for the autumn of 2021. Other important roles have included Hécube (Les Troyens) at La Scala Milan, Ericlea (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria) at Opera Vlaanderen, Mistress Quickly (Falstaff) at places including Florence, Lyon and Nantes and Mrs Sedley (Peter Grimes) in Turin. Elena Zilio can be heard on recordings including Pergolesi's Il flaminio (Fonit Cetra) and Puccini's Il trittico (EMI) under Antonio Pappano.
