During the 2018/19 season Barnaby Rea can be heard singing Soljony in a new production of Eötvös’ Tri sestry / Three Sisters, Truffaldin in Ariadne auf Naxos, A Shepherd in Daphne and a Judge in a new production of Smetana's Dalibor. He made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2015/16, singing Fabrizio Vingradito in La gazza ladra/The Thieving Magpie and his roles for the company last season included Hobson in a new production of Peter Grimes, a role he sang recently in Bergen and at the Edinburgh International Festival, Baron Mirko Zeta in Die lustige Witwe/The Merry Widow, the Commandant in From the House of the Dead - both new productions - Johan in Werther and Mr. Bosun in Billy Budd. Future plans include his return to Holland Park Opera in the summer of 2019. Other roles in Frankfurt have included Lord Tristan Mickleford (Flotow's Martha - available on CD - OehmsClassics), Pistola (Falstaff), Saretzki (Eugene Onegin), Keeper of the madhouse (The Rake’s progress) and a very scary Sciarrone in Tosca. This British bass was a Harewood Artist at English National Opera in London, where he recently sang Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Private Willis in Gilbert & Sullivan's Iolanthe. His repertoire includes the roles of Masetto (Don Giovanni), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Colline (La Bohème), Ludovico (Otello) and Nourabad (Les Pêcheurs de perles). Other places where Barnaby Rea has performed in recent seasons have included Holland Park Opera, Garsington Opera, Opera North in Leeds and Scottish Opera in Glasgow.
