Asmik Grigorian – voted »Best Female Singer« at the 2019 International Opera Awards – is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she appeared for the first time in a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta in 2018, which was followed by her sensational portrayal of the title role in Manon Lescaut, to sing Giordano’s Fedora. Born in Lithuania, this artist appears regularly at leading opera houses around the world. Engagements this season include Jenufa at Covent Garden, Salome at the Bolschoi in Moscow, Tatjana (Eugene Onegin), Elisabetta (Don Carlo) and Manon Lescaut at the Vienna State Opera and Lisa (Pique Dame) at La Scala Milan. During the summer of 2021 she sang Senta and Chrysothemis in new productions of Der fliegende Holländer / The Flying Dutchman and Elektra at the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals. Her astonishing portrayal of Salome at the 2018 Salzburg Festival won her the title of »Female Opera Singer of the Year«. Other important roles were Marie (Wozzeck) in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Marietta (Die tote Stadt / The Dead City) at La Scala Milan, Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly) at the Vienna State Opera and Royal Opera in Stockholm and Rusalka in Christof Loy’s new production at the Teatro Real de Madrid. Much in demand for concert work, appearances have included Iolanta under Kirill Petrenko, Beethoven 9 under Riccardo Muti and Shostakovitch 14 under Alexander Shelley. She and her pianist Lukas Genusias released an album: Dissonance (Apha Classics) – with Lieder by Rachmaninov - in March 2022. You can hear them both in recital in Frankfurt this autumn and Asmik Grigorian will be back on stage again here in the 2022/23 season.
