Claudia Mahnke, a much loved and hugely successful member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt, where she recently thrilled audiences with roles including Judith in Herzog Blaubarts Burg / Bluebeard's Castle, Didon in Les Troyens and Selika in L’Africaine - all new productions – is one of the most sought after mezzo-sopranos in the world. During Oper Frankfurt's 2018/19 season she can be heard again as Fricka in Die Walküre, Marie in Wozzeck, the Foreign Princess in Rusalka, Gertrud (the mother) in Hänsel und Gretel and the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos. Her repertoire includes Ottavia (Lʼincoronazione di Poppea), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), Waltraute / 2nd Norn (Wagner's Ring), Herodias (Salome), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) and the title role in Simplicius Simplicissimus. Recent engagements have included Jokaste (Oedipus Rex) at the Semperoper in Dresden and Kundry (Parsifal) and Judith at the Hamburg State Opera, where she is a regular guest and will be returning for Wagner's Götterdämmerung. She has also been invited back to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Other engagements have included appearances at the Bayreuth Festival, several years runnning, the Teatro Real Madrid, Opéra de Lyon, the opera houses in Stuttgart, Essen, Cologne, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, in Tokyo and Seoul, the Ruhrtriennale and Edinburgh International festivals. Before coming to Frankfurt Claudia Mahnke was a very popular member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart, which bestowed the title of Kammersängerin on her.
