Simon Bailey, a former member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt and winner of the 2018 Wales Theatre Award, is back in Frankfurt, where he recently sang Budivoj (Dalibor), the Father (Hänsel und Gretel) and Mr. Redburn (Billy Budd), to take part in two new productions this season, singing Uberto in Pergolesi's La serva padrona and the title role in Don Pasquale and Alberich in Siegfried. This British singer enjoyed great success with many roles during his time with the company, including Mozart's Leporello, Don Giovanni and Figaro, Gunther (Götterdämmerung), Klingsor (Parsifal), Achilla (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Gelone (Cesti’s L’Orontea), Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola) and the title role in Herzog Blaubarts Burg / Bluebeard’s Castle. Other recent engagements have included Klingsor (Parsifal) at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, Wotan (Die Walküre) in Shanghai, Kutusow (War and Peace) at Welsh National Opera and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and Leporello at Hessen’s State Opera in Wiesbaden. Simon Bailey, who also enjoys a busy concert career, has also sung Méphistophélès (La damnation de Faust), Siroco (Chabrier's L’étoile), Nicanor / Satan (David‘s Herculanum), Figaro, Leporello and the Four Villains in The Tales of Hoffman at places including Covent Garden in London, La Scala Milan, the Theater an der Wien, Oper Vlaanderen, Theater Basel and the Glyndebourne and Wexford festivals.
