The British baritone Simon Neal appears regularly at theatres around the world. In 2017 he enjoyed great success singing his first Wotans in Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, where other roles have included Rigoletto, the four villains in The Tales of Hoffmann, Jago (Otello) and Mandryka (Arabella). Now he's back at Oper Frankfurt to sing Mr Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium, instead of the title role in the new production of Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre, which the corona situation made impossible to perform. His roles here have included the Forester (role debut) in a new production of Das Schlaue Fuchslein / The Cunning Little Vixen, Mandryka (Arabella), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), Achilles (Penthesilea), the Four Villains (Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann), Scarpia (Tosca), Sebastiano (Tiefland) and the title role in Enescu's Oedipe. Recent engagements have included Telramund at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Don Pizarro (Fidelio) at the Royal Opera House in London, Cardillac at Opera Vlaanderen, Wagner's Dutchman and Schreker's Tamare (Die Gezeichneten) at Opéra Lyon, Jack Rance (La fanciulla del West) and Dr. Schön (Lulu) at Oper Leipzig. Other theatres where Simon Neal has appeared have included the Semperoper in Dresden, English National Opera, Opera Australia and in concerts with the RTE Symphony Orchestra Dublin, the Barcelona and Taiwan symphony orchestras. Simon Neal built up a substantial repertoire while a member of Theater Dortmund's ensemble from 2006 - 2011.
