General Music Director Sebastian Weigle has enjoyed great success at Oper Frankfurt with new productions of works including Lady Macbeth von Mzensk, Tristan und Isolde, Der ferne Klang / The Distant Sound, an Oedipus Rex / Iolanta double bill, Rusalka, Peter Grimes, Capriccio, Eugene Onegin, WozzeckDer Ring des Nibelungen and Die Frau ohne Schatten, (available on CD - OehmsClassics) for which he was voted »Conductor of the Year« by Opernwelt. This former Berlin Staats Kapellmeister and GMD of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona appears regularly at leading theaters and concert halls around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Berlin, Munich, Dresden and Hamburg state operas, Zurich Opera, the Bayreuth and Tokyo Spring festivals. Sebastian Weigle became Chief Conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in Japan in 2019 and they won the 2019 Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Music Award for Salome. A wonderful series of OehmsClassics live recordings from Oper Frankfurt has built up over the years including Berg's Wozzeck, Flotow's Martha, Martinů's Julietta, Wagner's Ring (available on DVD too), Reimann's Lear, Humperdinck's Die Königskinder, Korngold's Die tote Stadt / The Dead City, La fanciulla del West, Ariadne auf Naxos and three early Wagner operas.
