Vienna born Barbara Pral attended classes in textile design and printing at the Modeschule in Hetzendorf and studied stage and costume design at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. She began her career assisting the directors Claus Peymann and Luc Bondy. Engagements in opera and the straight theatre have taken her to the Burgtheater, the Theater an der Wien and Volkoper in Vienna, the Salzburg Festival, Ruhrfestspielen in Recklinghausen, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Berlin Ensemble and to Bremen, Essen and Düsseldorf. Directors and designers with whom Barbara Pral has worked have included Hans-Günter Heyme, David Mouchtar-Samurai, Barbara Novotny & Herrmann Schneider and Herbert Murauer and Heinz Hauser. She also produced the stage designs for Christof Loy's productions of Offenbach's La belle Hélène and Charpentier's Louise at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
