Prizes won by this Vienna born international pianist and conductor earlier on in his career included the »Busoni« and »Rubinstein« competitions. Orchestras and conductors with whom he has worked have included the Israel Philharmonic and Orchestre de Bordeaux, Ferdinand Leitner, Carl Melles and Jesus Lopez Cobos. He is much sought after as a chamber musician and accompanist (in recital with singers including Angelika Kirchschlager and Gérard Souzay) and regularly played the piano for masterclasses held by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Renata Tebaldi and Martina Arroyo. Singers with whom he has worked in concert and opera include Daniela Fally, Elina Garanča, Ramon Vargas, Benjamin Bruns and Thomas Hampson; he also regularly partners the violinist Lidia Baich in concert. He has also conducted the Salzburg Mozarteum (Le nozze die Figaro), the State Opera in Prague, Stadttheater St. Gallen and at the Festwochen in Vienna. His production of Pergolesi's La serva padrona was voted one of the five »Operas of the Year« by critics in Vienna in 1991. In 2000 Matthias Fletzberger began a 10 year period working in artistic management and for leading education institutions and governments. He returned to the classical music world in 2010. He recently conducted the 2016 New Year's concert at Lincoln Center in New York, and in Washington and Philadelphia. Future engagements take Matthias Fletzberger to Canada, America, Shanghai, Peking and the Tokyo Spring Festival.
