The Turkish mezzo-soprano Ezgi Kutlu is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. After a time spent under contract to the Staatstheater in Nürnberg, where roles included the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos and Dorabella in Così fan tutte, she embarked on a freelance career. Roles during the 2017/18 season include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and Juno (Handel's Semele) and Amastris (Handel's Xerxes) at the Komische Oper Berlin. She is a regular guest at both houses. Other engagements have taken Ezgi Kutlu to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Edinburgh International Festival, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Rome and St. Petersburg with Riccardo Muti and the Royal Festival Hall in London with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Her repertoire includes Bizet's Carmen, Angelina (La Cenerentola), Cornelia (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Isabella (L'italiana in Algeri) and Fenena (Nabucco). Ezgi Kutlu, winner of the Marian Anderson Award and at the Metropolitan National Council Auditions, studied in Ankara before continuing her training at the Juilliard School in New York and Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, which she followed up by participating in the Salzburg Festival's Young Singers Project.
