Over the years Carlos Krause has sung nearly 100 roles at Oper Frankfurt – the most recent being Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro), Herr Kavi (the world premiere of Lior Navok's An unserem Fluss/By Our River), an Old Gambler (in Harry Kupfer's new production of Der Spieler/The Gambler), Talpa and Simo­ne (Il trittico) Dansker (in Richard Jones' new production of Billy Budd). This baritone has been linked to the company since 1975 and was awarded the title of Kammer­sänger in 1993. Roles for the house since the 2002/03 season have included Schigolch (Lulu), Pistola (Falstaff), the Circus Director (Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride) and Konrad Nachtigall (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). He started his career as a member of the choruses at the Hamburg State Opera and the Bayreuth Festival. He made his operatic debut in 1962, in Kaiserslautern. This was followed by periods under contract in Detmold and Mainz. Guest engagements have included appearances in Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Bonn, Berlin, Brussels and Peking. Carlos Krause ran the Opera Academy in Bad Orb from 1990 – 2013 and was made an honorary citizen of Bad Orb in 2005. He was also awarded a Prize for Culture by the Main-Kinzig-Kreises.
