The Swedish soprano Agneta Eichenholz, known to audiences in Frankfurt for her portrayals of Mozart's Konstanze and Fiordiligi, sang the role of Clara / Clarissa in the world premiere of  Scartazzini's Der Sandmann / The Sandman, and first performances of this production, at Theater Basel in 2012. In February 2017 she sings Isabella in the world premiere of Scartazzini's new opera, Edward II, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin - also directed by Christof Loy, with whom she has worked regularly since her sensational debut in 2009 at Covent Garden singing Lulu in his production (which also went to the Teatro Real in Madrid; DVD available: Opus Arte). Recent roles in his productions have included Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes at the Theater an der Wien (which won the 2016 Best Production International Opera Award), the title role in Strauss’ Daphne at Theater Basel and the Hamburg State Opera, Handel's Alcina at Zurich Opera and Zdenka (Arabella) at the Nationale Opera Amsterdam, where she sang her first Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 2013. Other recent engagements have included Elettra (Idomeneo) at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg Freia (Das Rheingold) at the 2015 Ruhrtriennale and the Grand Théâtre in Geneva. Agneta Eichenholz has also performed at the Deutschen Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and the Salzburg Festival under conductors including Ivor Bolton, Antonio Pappano, Peter Eötvös, Julia Jones, Marc Soustrot, Kristjan Järvi and Andreas Stoehr.
