Born in Watford (England) Joseph Longstaff plays horn in the Frankfurt Opern und Museumsorchester during the  2023/24 season. He was a member of the Berlin Philharmonic’s Karajan Academy from 2022 - 2023, where he was taught by Sarah Willis, Andrej Žust and Stefan Dohr. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London on a scholarship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and was the first recipient of the Purcell School of Music’s Sir Charles Mackerras scholarship before being made an Erasmus Student at the Franz Liszt University in Weimar in 2021/22, where he studied with Jörg Brückner. He played in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for four years.
